The practice of water-baptism continued among Christians even after the onset of Jesus’ ministry. Jesus himself commanded the disciples to baptize all nations (Matt 28:19) and they apparently did so in similar ways to John (as is the case with Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch; see Acts 8:36), but obviously their situation was also different from John’s, particularly as they baptized after Jesus’ resurrection and Pentecost.
